Curiosity
I used to think history was just dates. Then I read my great-grandmother's letters and kept asking who she was writing to. Now when I read any source, I ask who's missing from it, and I go look for them.

Maintenant il me lit une page entière !
On Wednesdays, I help third graders read in French. There's a boy who had just arrived from Brazil, he didn't understand my explanations. At first I thought he wasn't trying. Then I noticed he understood better with pictures, because he was still thinking in Portuguese. So I changed how I explain things. Now he reads me a whole page!
